A Letter to the Holy Spirit

Dear Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, My Best Friend,

You have been the quiet voice in every turning point — the nudge in my gut, the whisper in my ear, the joy that overflows when someone finds truth they’ve been missing for too long. You’ve been my companion in the darkest places—the places where people despair, but where stories break open, and where hope flickers back to life. I couldn’t go there without you.

You were there long before I had language for trauma or theory or evidence-based anything. You were the One who taught me to notice — to see the sacred in human struggle, to look for strength in people who seem weak, and to believe that healing is always possible even when it feels out of reach. Throughout my whole life you’ve been calling me to this, opening my eyes to what others don’t see.

You guided me into the field of mental health, where I learned the science and structure behind what You’ve always known:
Wounds shape our lives,
Nervous systems remember,
Safety changes everything.

You helped me gather skills and frameworks and evidence-based tools — not to make me rigid, but to make me ready. Ready to honor trauma with tenderness and precision. Ready to sit with people in the dark places without fear. Ready to listen for the beautiful and unexpected ways You have shown up in people’s lives, to give them help and hope in the moments they needed it most.

You showed me that spirituality isn’t a performance, a platitude, or a shortcut — it’s breath, it’s connection, it’s inner knowing. True spirituality is truth, wisdom, wholeness, and life. You delight in bringing purpose, freedom and joy to the lives of those who receive you, and I delight in pouring out your spirit to those who are ready to drink from your well.

But over and over again You whispered the question that stirred my soul:

What if there was a space where all of this could live together —
the science, the soul, the story, the safety —
without being confined to a therapy room?

Hidden Gems Consulting became my yes.

Not another therapy practice.
Not a place of pressure or pretense.
But a home where the work You and I have done together could flourish in new ways — through consulting, teaching, writing, guiding, and equipping people and organizations with compassion, clarity, and spiritual depth.

Holy Spirit, You’ve shaped me into someone who:

• Honors the impact of trauma with compassion, not fear.

• Trusts evidence without losing sight of what’s possible (and You have said that everything is possible!)

• Integrates spirituality with gentleness and humility (and Holy Spirit—you know how much I love to talk about my Jesus! But I know some people aren’t ready to meet him yet, and that’s ok too.)

• Gives space for people to be fully safe, fully human, fully honest, fully seen, and fully loved. (Not by me, by you.)

You’ve taught me that I don’t bring the healing — I bring the presence, the tools, the attunement. You bring the life that makes transformation possible.

Hidden Gems is the work we built together — the place where my professional training, my lived experience, and my sweat and tears have met Your steady guidance.
It’s where people face the pain they tried to bury.
Where they remember who they are at their core and what the purpose of their life really is.
Where they find the Hidden Gems You have planted within them.

Thank you for gifting me with the opportunity to do this sacred work.
You’re my most Amazing Friend, My Counselor, My Comfort, and My Compatriot.
You bring life to my life, and to their lives as well. You are Absolutely Good, and I Love You.

*Leah is a mental health professional, consultant, and educator specializing in trauma-informed, spiritually-integrated, evidence-based work.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, and a Master’s of Science Degree (MS) from Southern New Hampshire University. Leah has held a clinical counseling license for over a decade, with work experience ranging from Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Counseling, Training & Development, Clinical Supervision, and, of course, Mental Health Counseling.

Leah blends evidence-based understanding with compassionate presence to help people and organizations cultivate spaces where healing, truth, and the goodness of humanity can flourish.
