Core Beliefs
What messages from childhood shape your leadership—and how can healing transform it?
As ministry leaders, the way we lead is deeply influenced by the early messages we received about safety, love, and belonging. Many of us carry childhood wounds from unmet needs that still echo in how we relate to others—and how we respond under pressure.
Consider these common core beliefs that might live in your inner being:
“The world is unsafe, and so am I.”
“My need for connection won’t be met.”
“I have no needs; I must take care of everyone else.”
“My life is all duty and obligation, with no choice.”
“I am only worthy if I do everything perfectly.”
As you reflect on these, imagine receiving healing messages from a source of unconditional love—whether God, a mentor, or your own compassionate self:
“You are safe, and I am here to guard your safety.”
“I will stay connected with you, no matter what.”
“You can rest and be cared for; you don’t have to carry it all.”
“Your boundaries and choices matter; you don’t have to do what you don’t want to.”
“You are loved and worthy exactly as you are.”
Healing inner wounds helps leaders develop resilience, compassion, and emotional safety—both for themselves and those they serve. Trauma-informed leadership starts with acknowledging these truths and moving toward restoration.
